Question of etiquette

  1. Allowed subjects are all about "Genealogy across the Baltic Sea". Even history, language, migration, church history, geography, culture and more can be allowed provided that these posts have an idea related to genealogy.

  2. Allowed languages are Danish, English, Estonian, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and German.

  3. All questions of the allowed subjects must always be sent to The list as most of the time, a number of members are interested or concerned with the issues. In addition, we build a knowledge bank in our archive to the benefit to current and future members.

Issues of private nature or relating to other subjects are always sent privately to the one concerned.

  4. Always enter a relevant heading (subject) in the subject line. This is because the members who are not interested in the subject should be able to discard it immediately without reading it and partly and above all to make it easier for you later to be able to find the post in our archive.

When you reply to an email and change the subject you should also change the heading.

  5. When you answer a post, just quote a small appropriate part of what you answer. Do not copy the entire post. Or summarize briefly what you want to comment. Otherwise, we'll see the same email again and again.

In addition, the archive will fill quickly with the same text.

  6. Attachments can not be inserted in a post. To protect members and archives from viruses all attachments will automatically be removed.
If You have signed up for Yahoo (by selecting "Sign Up Now" and found a suitable "Yahoo ID" and "Password"), you can access additional features to The list. For example, you can select "Files", where you can add pictures. You can read more about Yahoos technique regarding The list.

  7. The participants e-mail address is protected from electronic external scanning. Thus, with the current state-of-the-art technology, abuse with so-called spam can be avoided or spaming using The list can not be done.

  8. A civilized tone shall mark all conversations. Personal attacks or the like is not tolerated. Those who deal with such behavior will be banned from The list.

  9. If any post does not interest you you should throw it in trash can. Do not be annoyed others might be interested in that post.

  10. Never reveal the name of other researchers or members addresses to any third party. Against non-members we shall take care of each others privacy.

  11. Never forward whole posts or parts of it on The list to someone without first obtaining the author's written permission. Respect the rights of others to their "articles".
